Early Pregnancy Ultrasound

If you are an expecting mom, many questions and queries may revolve around your mind. Your doctor or gynaecologist may suggest 6 Weeks Ultrasound know more about your abdominal health.

It’s a big relief for the expecting mothers as they get to see their baby first time on the ultrasound screen. Tears of joy can be expected in such a case as nothing in the world can match the happiness of motherhood.

Here’s everything you need to know about ultrasound for pregnancy:

First-time Ultrasound

Your doctor may not recommend an ultrasound at your first meeting with them. Even if you start showing symptoms of pregnancy, the doctor may ask you to wait for at least six weeks or around 45 days before getting an ultrasound done.

However, if you are suffering from excessive stomach pain or bleeding during periods, your doctor can curtail the observation period and may ask for an ultrasound immediately.

Transvaginal Ultrasound

On the ultrasound screen, the baby may appear too small. In such a case, a regular ultrasound won’t help. That’s when your doctor can ask for transvaginal ultrasound in which a transducer (ultrasound wand) is inserted inside the vagina to examine the fetus.

If everything is okay, the sonographer will suggest the gestational age. Your doctor will use the gestational age (your due date) +/- three days as a marker throughout your pregnancy.

Due Date Confirmation

The purpose of 6 Weeks Ultrasound is manifold. It helps in finding out the baby’s gestational age. Based on the examination findings, the sonographer uses CRL (Crown-Rump Length) to determine the expected date of delivery.

Pulse and Heartbeats

In the sixth week of pregnancy, the ultrasound screen can show the heartbeat of the fetus. It gives you massive relief that the unborn kid is safe and doing well.

Trace the Embryo’s Location

A sonographer also examines the location of the embryo. Ideally, it should be next to the uterus. However, in the case of an ectopic pregnancy, the fertilised egg can get implanted in the fallopian tube. The gynaecologist may suggest appropriate medications and treatment in such a case if required.

Number of Fetuses

The ultrasound technician may also examine the number of embryos inside your abdomen. In most cases, every pregnant mom holds one embryo, but in some cases, there can be twins or even more. Without examining the whole abdomen, a pregnant mom may not know how many fetuses are inside her stomach.

In Conclusion

Every soon-to-be mom needs to undergo an ultrasound test after 45 days or six weeks as per her doctor’s recommendation. The test acts as an eye-opener and reveals multiple facts, which are necessary for both the mom and the gynaecologist.
