What is a Tax Id Number? A tax identification number (ITIN California) is as exactly as it sounds. Actually, it is a number that identifies an entity or individual for tax preparation. It is a term number that acts as an umbrella. Moreover, it covers all types of other numbers that can be used when contacting authorities for tax reasons. The TIN (Tax Identification Number) is used by many countries worldwide.

These tax numbers are used to help identify tax-paying individuals, to help administer the tax. It identifies those companies that are eligible to pay taxes.

Types of Tax Identification Numbers:

Tax Preparation Services in California. Tax Identification Numbers are different for each country. However, some countries use SSN numbers. This number is written from identity cards, passports, or other Identity National Numbers.

Unique Taxpayer Reference.

What is UTR? A UTR stands for Unique Taxpayer Reference. This is automatically assigned to each individual when they do one or two things with HMRC. One way is when they register for self-assessment and secondly when setting up a limited company. It consists of ten (10) digits. Moreover, this is sometimes referred to as a Tax Reference.

Important Note: whenever you register for Self-Assessment, it may take a few weeks (May take longer than a few weeks depending on the busy periods). This time is before you receive your Unique Taxpayer Reference. So, it is suggested that never leave your registration to the last day or minute.

Especially, in case you need to file a tax return before the deadline (in case you miss the deadline your fine can be more expensive).

EIN:

EIN stands for Employee Identification Number. In the United States of America, any type of business that consists of Employees must have an EIN number.

Number Insurance Number:

Another type of tax identification number is the National Insurance Number. Sometimes this number is known as NI number. This number is made up of two letters, six numbers, and a suffix letter that can be A, B, C & D.

NIN or National Insurance Number is mostly issued by the Department for work. Sometime issued by Pensions or HM Revenue and Customs, and is issued automatically when a person reaches the age of 16 years.

A letter will be send to an entity or individual, however, they cannot be used this letter as proof of identity.

Those residents who do not have a National Insurance Number will need to apply for one if they are planning to claim any benefit, apply for a student loan, or to pay for class 3 voluntary National Insurance Contribution.

What if you don’t have either of these?

Well in most cases not all residents or taxpayers will have either of these. However, one may receive a PAYE Temporary Reference Number (TRN). This number can be use in case you don’t have a Tax Identification Number. This number can be use when an individual National Insurance Number cannot be found.

Additionally, this number is made up of two numbers, one letter, five numbers.
