5 Types of Fabric to Keep You Cool and Comfortable

by SierraPowell

Personal style is something unique to every individual, and most people want to look stylish during summertime. There’s a wide variety of fashionable pieces to put on to express your look, but the most important thing to consider is the fabrics and not just their color and texture. When the temperatures are sizzling, you need cool and comfortable material on your skin. Style experts are sharing their favorite fabrics that will keep you looking fresh and crisp all summer long.

1. Linen

Even when it feels downright tropical outside, linen is an ideal fabric to turn to for several reasons. It’s an attractive lightweight material offering incredible breathability, excellent moisture-wicking properties, and durability as a clothing material. For some folks, linen always seems to give off a high-end, easy-breezy vibe

Linen garments create a soft, tailoring structure and are usually cut and designed in looser styles that stand away from the body and allow for good air circulation. The only “bad” aspect of the fabric is its easy wrinkling tendencies. Of course, you can steam these favorite pieces for that smooth appearance, or just embrace the natural wrinkling of linen and go about your business.

2. Silk

Some people stay away from silk when the temperatures heat up fearing that they will sweat and feel the fabric sticking to their bodies. However, that is a myth because this luxe, draping fabric that often comes in gorgeous, vibrant hues can naturally adjust to your body’s temperature. There are a lot of unique silk fabrics out there. Raw silk is heavy with more texture, so save that one for winter, but by selecting the right silk blend of about 20% to 30%, you can ease into a sultry day or evening without a problem.

Fabric experts from India say that cotton offers better breathability than silk, but choosing the proper silk blends will keep you as cool as a cucumber during summer. For instance, silk georgette, cotton silk, and chanderi are three elegant fabrics that work.

3. Sun-Protective

Here is another excellent material to purchase for those hot summer days that offer amazing style and keeps you feeling cool and comfy. Sun-protective fabrics such as IBKUL Sun Shirts are made with Ultraviolet Protection Factor or UPF for blocking out the strong UVA/UVB rays of the sun.

These beautiful fashion pieces by IBKUL provide the highest UPF available in the 50- factor, which means you can head outdoors with confidence knowing that your clothing is shielding you from up to 97% of the sun’s damaging rays. Not only that, these shirts are gorgeous and come in several colors and prints, including the popular designs of Emilio Pucci and Lilly Pulitzer.

Golf in them, walk in them, hike in them, lunch in them, or just look stylish in them, sun-protective fabrics are the wave of the future.

4. Cotton

Talk about a reliable classic, you can’t go wrong dressing in a cotton outfit to handle the summer sun and heat. Cotton is versatile, breathable and feels soft, and soaks up sweat. It’s also available everywhere, inexpensive, and offers tons of colors and styles.

The only downside to cotton is its wrinkling and shrinking factor unless you choose a cotton blend such as polyester.

If you sweat a lot, then, cotton may not be the ideal material for you because the fabric could feel heavy under your arms and uncomfortable as it soaks up the extra moisture.

5. Rayon

This synthetic material is great for those hazy, hot summer days and nights. Rayon offers impressive moisture-wicking ability and thin fibers for breathability. This fabric drapes attractively on the body, is soft to the touch, and with spandex added for stretch, it can create a flattering silhouette.

Rayon does best when you wash it by hand. It is a sensitive material that can shrink, stretch or bleed onto other articles of clothing if you toss it into the washing machine.

When the weather heats up, and the sun is shining, you want to “soak up” every awesome minute outdoors and enjoy your summer. Wear these fabrics, look fashionable in them, and always stay cool and comfortable.
